When I first started enameling,
I didn’t know much.
I could cut out a copper shape
- Sift and fire a layer of enamel
- Maybe add a wire
- Paint a layer of enamel color
- Fire it until it melted.
That was enough.
Over time, I refined those same simple skills.
But even now — decades later —
I’m still using the same foundational actions.
The tools haven’t changed much.
What’s changed is how I use them.
It’s not the skills you have.
It’s how you use them.

This Isn’t About Talent
It’s about belief — and practice.
Over the years, as I’ve sold my enamel jewelry,
people have often told me how talented I am.
I feel honored when they say that.
But I always pause.
Because what I make — and how I make it —
has very little to do with talent.
It comes from something my parents gave me at a young age:
The belief that I could do or be anything I chose.
So when I first saw a beautiful cloisonné enamel in person,
it didn’t feel uncomfortable to think:
“Someday I’ll be able to do that.”
There was no evidence that I could.
I had no artistic training.
Just a few clumsy attempts.
Some books.
And curiosity.
But I believed that if I wanted something enough,
I could figure it out.
And so I did.
Not because I was gifted.
Because I kept exploring.
